    First broadcast: July 8th, 2011

Torchwood no longer exists. Only Gwen was able to save himself and now lives in the country somewhere in Wales with Rhys and baby Anwen. But when her father has a heart attack and is in the hospital, she returns to Cardiff to see him. Although he is seriously ill, Geraint Cooper survived. He cannot even die because the world is haunted by an eerie phenomenon. People still get sick, injured, have accidents, but they don't die. What is a blessing for some, others see as a threat, because the emergency rooms are overcrowded and the world is overpopulated. One of the first to not die is the child molester and murderer Oswald Danes, whose execution fails spectacularly. He must then be released. Exactly at the time when the last person dies, the CIA received an anonymous mail with the word "Torchwood". This calls on Captain Jack Harkness, who tries to delete the mail and all references to Torchwood in order to protect Gwen. Nevertheless, CIA agent Rex Matheson tracks down Gwen and has Torchwood extradited to the USA.

  • Poisoned

    First broadcast: July 15, 2011

While Rex tries to get information out of Jack and Gwen on the plane, his hypothermic colleague Lyn is already one step further - she poisoned Jack with arsenic. Fortunately, Rex can reach his doctor Vera Juarez by phone, who also uses her colleagues to feverishly develop an antidote. Oswald Danes begins to develop into a media phenomenon. The mysterious pharmaceutical company Phicorp appears for the first time, in the form of its PR woman Jilly Kitzinger. Vera needs Jilly's connections because she needs to get hold of the pain reliever supplies the US government had originally earmarked for defense to treat the many patients. In the meantime, Esther comes under pressure because of her connection with Rex. She disappears from the CIA office and warns Rex that the extradition is a trap. At the last moment, Rex recognizes the danger and flees in Esther's car - with Jack and Gwen in tow.

  • The unknown enemy

    First broadcast: July 22, 2011

It becomes clear that Rex was delivered to the knife by his superior Friedkin. But apart from a cell phone, which the mysterious backers can use to reach him, Rex initially has nothing in hand. Together with Esther, Jack and Gwen he continues to investigate. You discover a huge warehouse in which the pharmaceutical company Phicorp has stashed huge amounts of medicines. Obviously, the company knew about the miracle before it happened. Via Jilly Kitzinger, Phicorp approached both Oswald Danes and the doctor Vera Juarez. Vera treats Rex, who suddenly appears at her place, and after a night together Rex can persuade her to spy on Phicorp for him.

  • In the lion's den

    First broadcast: July 29, 2011

The first camps organized by Phicorp for people who should be dead are starting to fill up. With her "Tot is tot" campaign, a conservative politician threatens to compete with Oswald as a media darling, but she is dumped ice cold. Oswald, on the other hand, is now making himself - paid for by Phicorp - the lawyer for the forgotten and unwanted. Torchwood wants to get to California undetected to take on Phicorp. But Esther's brief visit to her sister leads Phicorp to find out her whereabouts. A killer follows Jack and Gwen into the high-security section of Phicorp, from which they want to steal a server, and threatens to kill both of them.

  • Categories of life

    First broadcast: August 5th, 2011

Fed up with the brave new world of Phicorp healthcare, Vera joins Torchwood. Governments around the world have set up the new category system and numerous detention centers. Patients are divided into two categories: the injured and the sick represent one category, people who should actually be dead and are only not because of the miracle, the other. Gwen returns to Wales to bring her father home. In California, Esther and Vera infiltrate a camp after Rex smuggled in as a patient. Amazing things are happening in both Wales and California. Obviously, it's all about keeping patients, not treating them. Vera gets into an argument with warehouse manager Maloney, who shoots at her and seriously injures her.

  • Liberation Action

    First broadcast: August 12, 2011

Jack learned from a Phicorp executive that while the company benefited from the miracle, it failed to bring it about, and that an important term floated through the files before it was erased in the 1990s: "The Source." Gwen and Rhys free Gwen's father from the camp, but before Gwen returns to the United States to continue the fight against the miracle, she blows up the modules of the Welsh camp. After Vera's violent death, Rex filmed a video evidence of what went on in the camps. Although the news is now full of Rex and Gwen's revelations about the camps, it will not be closed. They were able to locate Gwen by the Eye-Five lenses she was wearing and rescue Gwen and Jack while in Wales, Andy and a special unit rescue Gwen's family at the same time. However, Angelo is not responsible for the "miracle", but for the families of three men who once wanted to buy Jack. That these three families still have great power is shown when Rex's (Mekhi Phifer) boss shows up, who is actually on the families' payroll and wants to take Torchwood out of circulation. But Rex can prevent it.

  • The source

    First broadcast: September 2nd, 2011

Gwen hid her sick father in the basement so the authorities wouldn't find him. In Virginia, Rex is still trying to track down the three families. But every track ends in a dead end. Rex therefore suspects a mole in the CIA. Oswald Danes finally reveals a name, Harry Bosco. A crucial clue that leads Esther on the right track of the "source", namely to Buenos Aires and Shanghai.

  • Immortal blood

Torchwood: characters and cast

John Barrowman, already known from "Doctor Who", plays the lead role of Captain Jack Harkness in "Torchwood".

At his side are Eve Myles ("Broadchurch") as Gwen Cooper, Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto Jones, Naoko Mori as Toshiko Sato and Burn Gorman ("Game of Thrones") as Dr. See Owen Harper.

In addition, Mekhi Phifer ("Emergency Room") can be seen as Rex Matheson and Bill Pullman ("While you were sleeping", "The Sinner") as Oswald Danes.

Torchwood: production

The idea of the spin-off for the British science fiction series "Doctor Who" came from none other than DW series creator and showrunner Russel T Davies.

The first three seasons of the series were produced entirely in Wales. The fourth season, in turn, was mostly filmed in the US, as it was a co-production of the BBC with the US broadcaster Starz.

Torchwood: Alternatives

If you're in the mood for even more series with supernatural beings, then we recommend "Supernatural", "The X Files - The FBI's Creepy Cases" and "Fringe - Borderline Cases of the FBI".

"Supernatural" is about the Winchester brothers Sam and Dean who protect the world from supernatural beings.

"The X-Files - The Scary FBI Cases" has become a cult series. She tells of the two FBI agents Dana Katherine Scully and Fox William Mulder, who solve paranormal cases.

And in "Fringe - Borderline Cases of the FBI", FBI agent Olivia uncovered a conspiracy involving an elderly scientist.
