Political identity-ethnicity-gender

Cinur Ghaderi shows the changes in identities and values of politically active migrants who come from a conflict region. The focus is on their self-positioning and the change in their politicized identity. It makes multiple forms of identification visible and shows enormous heterogeneity as well as clear differentiations using the example of Kurdish imaginations of ethnicity and gender designs. At the same time, the data allow limited generalizations, from which four divergent strategies of self-localization can be generated. These types of strategies show: The reorientation of political identity in migration leads to different positioning strategies that enable biographical continuity and repositioning in the new social space and which are linked to specific values in relation to ethnicity and gender.
