India's largest TV broadcaster modernizes with Lawo technology

As the largest broadcaster in India, Doordarshan (DD) reaches around 92% of the population and covers 81% of the total area of ​​the Indian subcontinent. The government-funded TV station also owns the largest terrestrial network in the world. With over 90 studios and relay stations across the Indian subcontinent, Doordashan is one of the largest broadcasters in the world. The broadcaster installed Lawo mixing console technology while modernizing its television news room in the broadcasting center in New Delhi.

The responsibility for the system integration for this project in the Doordarshan Central Production Center (CPC) was taken over by Sun Broadcast, to which DD presented the Lawo technology.

"With a mc²36 with 40 faders, we won the tender, a mixer with 96 + 96 DSP channels - the first console from the mc² series at DD," confirms Tan Boon Siong, Lawo Sales Director for Southeast Asia. "The price was also decisive, but above all our ability to meet all the technical requirements that Doordarshan had specified."

Planning for the renovation began in mid-2015, and the contract was awarded a year later. The mixer was ordered from Lawo in October 2016. The installation is currently in full swing; it is expected to be completed with an acceptance at the end of March.

Doordarshan broadcasts information on nationwide programs as well as regional and local programs and operates 21 channels including DD News, DD National, DD Sport and DD Bharati. After completion, the newly established control room will offer a fully integrated operation for DD News with new and more advanced technology than was previously available to DD.

Decisive for the choice of a mc²36 mixer for this project was the reputation of Lawo, the customer support and the German quality work. "We meet all the technical requirements that the technical team had specified," says Tan Boon Siong. “Now the installation is almost complete, then tests of individual parameters and performance will follow during the final acceptance, which will take about a year.
