Therapy of language comprehension and vocabulary in an interactional context

18./19. June 2021
- Seminar space available - The seminar is offered online!

The development of the child's first receptive and productive vocabulary is a complex process that is embedded in the overall development in typical stages.

During this time, the child develops communicative and interactive skills and shows his development in the use and understanding of symbols. In addition to the increase in words, it is primarily about the semantic knowledge that is contained in language information. In the course of development, the child acquires skills in the differentiation of vocabulary, the assignment of semantic characteristics and the development of categories.

The receptive and productive vocabulary is an essential basis for language acquisition and has a strong impact on the other linguistic levels.

In the therapeutic context it is necessary to orientate oneself as closely as possible to natural acquisition mechanisms. An isolated offer of language often enables success in the therapy situation; however, the transfer to natural communication situations does not take place if the child does not recognize the communicative necessity and the special function of language.

In the seminar, important elements for creating an interactive context for building, expanding and differentiating the receptive and productive vocabulary are addressed and impulses for everyday therapy are given.

The development and assessment of language comprehension in different phases of development is presented, the focus is primarily on an interactive perspective. The focus here is on observing and promoting symbolic development, communicative skills and monitoring.

In the suggestions for funding, the synergy effects of language and play are emphasized. Video examples illustrate the theoretical principles and suggestions for diagnostics and therapy.

The content of the seminar relates to work with children up to 6 years of age. It assumes a basic knowledge of the principles of language and game development.
